Powerful Accessibility Features

AccessiMail runs 80+ checks covering every dimension of email accessibility — so your campaigns reach every subscriber, regardless of ability.

  • Color Contrast Analysis

AccessiMail analyses every foreground/background colour pair in your email against WCAG 2.1 and 2.2 thresholds — 4.5:1 for normal text and 3:1 for large text and UI components. Every failing pair is reported with the exact measured ratio, the minimum compliant ratio required, and a suggested replacement colour that passes. Results are grouped by severity so your team knows what to fix first.

  • Alt Text Validation

We check every <img> tag for missing, empty, or insufficiently descriptive alt attributes. The audit distinguishes between decorative images (which must use alt="") and informational images (which require meaningful descriptions). We also flag common anti-patterns: filenames used as alt text, redundant phrases like "image of", and alt text that duplicates adjacent body copy — all of which degrade the screen reader experience.

  • Link Accessibility

All hyperlinks are evaluated across five criteria: descriptive link text (no "click here" or bare URLs), sufficient colour contrast from surrounding body text, visual differentiation beyond colour alone, proper disclosure when opening in a new window, and detection of duplicate adjacent links that create confusion for keyboard and screen reader users. Each violation is mapped to the corresponding WCAG success criterion.

  • Screen Reader Compatibility

AccessiMail tests the full semantic structure of your email: heading hierarchy, table markup (including role="presentation" on layout tables), ARIA roles and properties, reading order consistency, and landmark regions. We simulate how a screen reader traverses your HTML to surface issues that visual inspection misses — such as content trapped inside inaccessible containers or headings that skip levels.

  • WCAG 2.1/2.2 Reports

Every audit generates a structured compliance report mapped to specific WCAG 2.1 and WCAG 2.2 success criteria. Reports include an overall accessibility score, a severity breakdown (Critical, Warning, Suggestion, Passed), per-criterion results with code snippets, and remediation guidance. Reports are available as shareable web links and downloadable PDFs — ready to share with clients, developers, or compliance teams.

  • ESP Integrations

Connect AccessiMail directly to Mailchimp to trigger audits automatically before every send, or scan your entire historical campaign archive in bulk. No copy-paste required — the integration pulls the rendered HTML directly from your ESP, ensuring what gets audited is exactly what your subscribers receive. Support for Klaviyo, Iterable, Substack, Kit, HubSpot, Shopify, and WordPress is on the roadmap.

  • EAA Compliance

The European Accessibility Act (EAA) became legally binding for digital products and services in June 2025. AccessiMail maps every audit check to the relevant EAA requirements alongside WCAG criteria, so you can generate compliance evidence for EU regulatory purposes. Reports include an EAA compliance summary section explicitly suited for legal documentation and internal governance audits.

  • Dark Mode Audit

Many accessibility failures are invisible in light mode but emerge when a subscriber's system switches to dark mode. AccessiMail tests your email against both light and dark colour scheme preferences, simulating how CSS media queries and email client dark mode overrides affect contrast ratios and readability. Issues found only in dark mode are flagged separately so developers can target fixes precisely.
